Is SolarHomeTech free to use?
Yes. The rooftop solar calculator is free to run. No account or payment is required to estimate PV output, self-consumption, and payback.
Which regions are supported?
Any rooftop across Europe works best. PVGIS coverage spans Europe, and tariff plus currency assumptions focus on EUR and nearby markets.
Can I use this for Germany, France, Spain, Italy, or the Netherlands?
Yes. Enter your address or postcode and select the country; the tool applies local irradiance and currency. For assumptions, see the
Methodology page.
Does this work for apartment buildings?
It can estimate shared roofs if you provide usable area and orientation. For detailed design, share roof layout with an installer after your run.
Does this estimate solar payback period?
Yes. Payback is modeled from upfront capex, self-consumed value at the retail tariff, and exports at the feed-in ratio. For details see
Methodology.
Can I use my own electricity tariff?
Yes. Set the feed-in slider today; custom retail tariffs are coming soon. You can also export results and compare scenarios.
How accurate is the production forecast?
It uses PVGIS typical meteorological year data plus your tilt/azimuth. For final design, have a local installer validate shading and mounting.
Can I download the raw results?
Yes. After running an analysis, download monthly tables and charts as CSV or images, or share the link with your installer.
How are panel counts and system size decided?
Usable roof area and tilt/azimuth shape the array. The calculator assumes about 1.75 m2 per kWdc and sizes within your provided area.
Where can I try my own rooftop?
Use the main analyzer on the
homepage. Enter your address, roof area, and tilt to see savings in minutes.
